I Want a “Caleb” Heart

Therefore, Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb…because he followed the LORD GOD of Israel fully…Then the land had rest from war. – Joshua 14:14-15

Caleb has consistently been faithful, not shirking the hard path to lay hold of GOD’s promises. Not only was he one of the two “good spies” who believed GOD could deliver the Promised Land to them in spite of apparently overwhelming odds and obstacles when he was younger, but now that he is an old man, he is not afraid to take on the hardest assignments, even seeking out the hill country for his own possession, claiming to be as strong in his 80s as he was in his 40s. Some of the hardest terrain to subdue but he wants it, trusts GOD to continue to provide as He has all along.  He sees what GOD has done and he trusts in His hand of provision and deliverance even yet, when he faces yet more obstacles.  He doesn’t give up, retire, leave the hard jobs to the young’uns.  No, he is ready to take it all on to continue to see GOD reveal His strength and power and glory. He doesn’t want to miss any of it or be found lacking in faith.

GOD honors that heart and that spirit of doing whatever it takes to take GOD at His Word and hold onto the promises, persevere through difficulty and fully participate in bringing His plan and blessing to fruition. Caleb is not idle or basking in easy entitlement.  He fervently desires God’s best and he is willing to work for it, do his part to show that he really wants it and will not hesitate to act in faith to show his devotion to and absolute trust in GOD.

I want to be like Caleb. I need rest from the “wars” of this life and so do my kids. Doing nothing and expecting a reward is NOT an option. If I want to arrive at His place of promise, I have to remain faithful and trust GOD to see to the details of keeping His promises; to show me the way HOME to the place He is preparing for us.

Dear LORD,

Thank You that You have never let us lack for a roof over our heads or food to eat in spite of our difficult circumstances. Please make the next path, the next home clear and grant us the resources to obtain it and keep it.  Grant us favor, go before us and be with us in all ways until we have the peace and rest You have promised as our portion in the land of the living.

In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Be strong and courageous for the LORD your GOD will be with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9

I am not ashamed for I know in Whom I have believed and am convinced that He is able to guard that which I have entrusted to Him until that day.  2 Timothy 1:12
